Why Some “Vegans” Go Back to Eating Meat

Posted on April 21st, 2015

I’m sure that I am not the first one writing about this topic, but each individual has his or her own perspective on various issues, so I feel that it cannot hurt if I share mine. Hopefully it will shed some light on the challenges that we face while adapting to a vegan lifestyle.

The reason why I put the word “vegan” in quotation marks is because those who went back from being vegan were actually not fully realized vegans. Since veganism is not a diet, someone who is truly vegan on a deep level can never go back to consuming flesh and other animal products.

As Melanie Joy refers to in the psychology of Carnism and Dr. Will Tuttle touches upon in the psychology of the Heredism, our eating habits are nothing but deeply rooted cultural conditioning.  This programming is not in integrity with our Divine Nature and it creates a great deal of pain and suffering. Carl Jung, even though not vegan, named this condition Shadow Aspect and Eckhart Tolle calls it the Pain Body. Giving a name to a psychological dysfunction and admitting that we are inflicted by it is the first step towards healing. It is a similar process of healing as recovering from other addictions such as drugs, alcohol or smoking, but even more difficult and complex.  The way I see it, even drug and alcohol addictions are rooted in the fact that we are not in integrity with our true nature.

For this reason, the only way a person can sustain living as a vegan is by awakening and healing at the core of their being. This means facing the abyss of the dark side and dissolution of all that is false. Our ego is not all bad and we need it to assist us with basic survival in our physical reality, but it has to function in alignment with our Higher Self and the Universal Truth.

Now you may ask, why did we allow this to happen? Or why did God allow this to happen? I cannot say exactly how and why, but based on my spiritual studies, it may have come about as follows. In the beginning, the Divine Consciousness and our Spiritual Selves co-created the physical reality in which we’re experiencing life through a physical body and the five senses. Since we’re an extension of the Divine Creator, we are given free will, which gives us the freedom to have unlimited experience.  Unfortunately, this experience, as attractive as it is, also turned out to be a trap. I am pretty sure that we knew this was going to happen and so for this reason we programmed our DNA to bring us back if we were to ever find ourselves going too far astray.

In addition to that, the Universal Truth, also known as the law of cause and effect or Karma plays a leading role in our awakening. While under the rulership of our limited egos making fear based choices, we have created a false reality and now we are reaping the consequences:  Global warming, extinction of species, world hunger, wars, diseases such as cancer, heart disease , diabetes, depression,  just to name a few.  These consequences also create challenges in our personal lives, which triggers the activation of our DNA. Some of us are already awakened and some of us are awakening as we speak.

Those of us who woke up have experienced an enormous shock from realizing what is going on. However, we also realized that the key factor for returning to our Divine Nature and to save what is left and then restore it can only happen by adopting a vegan lifestyle. This type of awakening is the true vegan nature from which there is no going back. Some people seem to find a period of adjustment in switching over to the vegan lifestyle; they notice changes in the way they 'feel' overall in their bodies. As we stick with this new spiritual choice for our life we find this feeling disappears.

Even though the process may differ for each individual, once they are vegan they remain vegan forever. So if you are on the path of veganism whether at the beginnng or just thinking about it, do not let the stories of ex-vegans confuse you. And those of you, who are ex-vegans, please do not give up. Being vegan is our true nature, so do not let your ego mislead you. Our bodies have adapted to animal products only because of thousands of years of conditioning and the ego’s false belief system. It may take a few tries before you heal. Today the vegan movement is stronger than ever and the vegan community is here to help you.
